Annapurna Sanctuary

| The Annapurna Sanctuary is a
beautiful open area surrounded by 6,000 and 7,000 meter peaks the most
famous being Annapurna (I-IV) and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). There is
only one pass to access the area. The Annapurna Circuit is the
classic trek which circles the mountains which make enclose the Sanctuary. |

Better known as ABC this is the goal of the Sanctuary
trek at 4200m. |

Annapurna I at Sunrise
After being forced indoors by snow and high winds the
afternoon before we wake up to a beautiful sunrise and three inches of
fresh snow. |

No where near the size of the Khumbu
Glacier in Everest this glacier still looks like it could be on the moon
when not covered in snow. |

Anatoli Memorial
Memorial to Anatoli Boukreev, the russian
climber at the center of controversey surrounding the '96 Everest
disaster. His side of the story can be found in his book The
Climb. He was killed in an avalanche a year later while climbing
Annapurna. |

ABC Below Fishtail
Here you can see the four lodges at
ABC. The entrance to the Sanctuary is between Fishtail on the left
and Hiunchuli on the right. |

When bad weather forced us indoors we played cards, read
and ate fried Mars bars at this lodge. The proprietors here make a
great breakfast and are incredibly efficient at serving up your order. |
