Jomsom to Tatopani
November 1 - November 3 |
|
Jomsom Airport
It was a short 20 minute flight from
Pokhara to Jomsom on Gorkha Airlines. |
 |
 |
Wide Load
Look closely at the porter in the distance
carrying a timber from him head. It is a 12"x12"x12' beam
for a new hotel being built in Jomsom. |
|
Annapurna '99 Group
Rajendra, Willy and myself on the banks of
the Khali Gandaki river in front of Tukuche peak. |
 |
 |
Village of Marpha
This is a typical village in Annapurna.
It looks very different from the Sherpa villages along the route to
Everest. |
|
River Crossing I
Rajendra found a shortcut but he felt bad because it
required fording a river, so he insisted carrying Willy and I across with
our packs. He was barefoot and the river was very cold. |
 |
 |
River Corssing II
A half hour later we had to cross another branch of the
Kali Gandaki river. Willy opts to go it alone this time while
Rajendra stands by and watches. |
|
Lunch Break
A typical garden of a teahouse in the Annapurna
region. The menu is more varied as well including pizzas, enchiladas
and burritos. |
 |
 |
Teahouse Bakey
This bakery at the Waterfall Lodge sits at
the foot of a 100m high waterfall. I particularly like the sign the
proprietor has painted under the window. |
|
Mountain Sheep
As we rounded the corner on a narrow trail
with a steep drop to the river Willy and I had to dodge falling
rocks. There was a herd of mountain sheep grazing just above us
knocking loose small rocks. |
 |
 |
Bridge Crossing River
The trails in Annapurna are much more well
maintained than in Everest. Every bridge is modern and most trails
are 'paved' with flat rocks as opposed to being dirt. |
